Hi! My name is Ashton Speer. I'm an SLP and owner of my private practice, Resilience Therapy Services, LLC where I provide pediatric therapy (for now) to private clients and students in school districts. I have worked in multiple settings before finding my dream job, because I built it. I've done home health, SNF's (during COVID), out patient, in patient, as an employee for a contract company for school districts, and now, private practice. I live on Put in Bay in Ohio. I say "on", because it's actually a small island. I live here with my 4 rabbits, small dog, and the words best fiancé. I love being an SLP and actually making a difference in peoples lives! It makes my heart so happy to see my students and clients actually making progress. And it makes them happy too! (or their family!). â€‹

If you're at all curious as to why I wanted to create this space, I'll gladly tell you!

I wanted to create a safe space for SLP's to bring their problems, concerns, irritations, and annoyances in order to look for ways to actually solve their problems (or at least make some improvement). From all of the settings I've work in and people I have worked with, I've come across many problems that could have been easily solved. Problems that caused either delays in evaluations/treatment, making actual progress, a toxic work environment, being completely stressed out or major passive aggressive attacks between co-workers. And who can forget drama and gossip. It's all so draining and exhausting to keep fighting against when working full time. Leaving little to nothing left for when we get home.

I don't know about you, but I want to enjoy my life during work and after work. I want to play as hard as I work. I want to walk into work feeling peaceful and looking forward to seeing my students or patients. I want to laugh at lunch with my co-workers about the mistakes we've made and how we were two seconds away from taking recess away for the whole year. I want to go home excited to see my family and have the energy to play with my (future) kids in the backyard, laughing and running around. I don't know about you, but I believe all of that is more than worth the fight. Arm yourself with the knowledge and tools you will find here. Keep fighting. Know what you are fighting for and keep fighting until it's yours. You are strong.

There will be several different tools for you to use. There will be podcasts, webinars, materials, and more. If I was a genie I would already have all of that for you. But, I'm only starting with the blog for now. I really hope any of you find it at all helpful. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
